It is with deepest sadness to learn that our Past District Governor, Dr. Raymond C.W. Wong, passed away on Thursday, 4th December 2008.
ReplyDeletePDG Raymond is a dedicated and respectful Rotarian in District 3450. I know him more than 25 years ago, when we were Presidents in the same year 1984-1985.
PDG Raymond gave me tremendous support during my term of Governorship in 2001-2002. He was my Chairman for the District Membership Development Committee. He provided me with lots of Rotary Information whenever I requested him.
I now feel that I have suddenly lost a good friend as well as a valuable mentor in Rotary. Not only is his death a great loss to District 3450, but also a severe loss to the whole Rotary world.
On behalf of my family, may I extend our deepest condolence to PDG Raymond's family, especially his surviving spouse Vivien, and also to rest in peace.
PDG Johnson Chu

In Memoriam - Past District Governor Dr Raymond CW Wong
ReplyDeleteIt is with the utmost sorrow that I just read the very sad news of my special DG Dr Raymond CW Wong. "My" District Governor as he was our Governor in 1988/89 when I was President of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong. As DG already in 1987/88, he taught me all about Rotary and always impressed me with his dedication to our great organization in general and The Rotary Foundation in particular.
My mentor in Rotary has gone. My better-half Christiane joins me in extending our condolences to dear Vivien. We share her pain at this difficult time. Unable to return for the Memorial Service, we will honor PDG Raymond's memory with a donation to The Rotary Foundation.
With the deepest sadness - and affection to all,
Yours ever in Rotary fellowship,
Dom.

ReplyDeleteDear Vivien,
With the deepest sorrow that I've just read the sad news of my most respected district governor, PDG Raymond Wong, I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to you.
Being the Governor who chartered our Rotary Club of Tolo Harbour, he is my teacher in Rotary and the advisor to my editorial and translation work of the many District Governor's Newsletters in the past years. He gave me all kinds of encouragement in Rotary and enlightened my Rotary life all the time. With his dedication to Rotary and service, he is my most respected and impressed Governor. Without him, I would never be a Rotarian like today.
Being the doctor-in-charge to my father's terminal case some 14 years ago, my family appreciated his outstanding operations. On behalf of my family, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to dear Vivien. As a Christian family, we believe we will meet PDG Raymond in the heaven of God. In this sadness moment, we share your pain and grief.
With LOVE in GOD,
Parry Poon and Family.
Very sorry to hear this sad news. What a good man with strong commitment and dedication to Hong Kong Society, Rotary Family and so on.
ReplyDeleteIn particular late PDG Raymond Wong's contribution to outgoing GSE members. He took opportunity during the free medical check and offer his knowledge and challenges to young profession. I believed many of us learnt much more about Rotary families business from him.
It is indeed a great loss for D-3450 as well as Hong Kong community.
My condolence to his family members.

Dear PDG Raymond,

PDG Raymond, you probably didn't know how your short motivational e-mail had touched my heart so much and urged me to move on with my Rotary duties and services, despite all the challenges. One thing for sure you definitely know is that you are loved and respected so much by so many of us, particularly the Sunshine Ladies. Still remember the "Walk for a Polio-free World" at the Peak years back, the inspirational talk you delivered for potential members at our Club's Rotary Night, our discussion about the Public Relations training framework for the Rotary Shares Leaders at the District Assembly ? I bet you do. You are always the one whom we can always depend on when it comes to Rotary information and wisdom. You never spares any effort in caring for people and in touching people's heart & lives by simply being PDG Dr Raymond Wong in a very special way. Whenever I see you, I realize what a role model Rotarian looks like and what "Service Above Self" really means. As a humble Rotarian, I feel so proud to to have such a distinguished leader, mentor and role model in our district. I just cannot find any better word to thank you for what you have done for Rotary, our district, and so many people who have benefited from your service, compassion and love.
I know you believe in "Peace is Possible" and would like to see the work of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation continue in making this world a better one for all concerned. I guess the best way to pay tribute to you is to follow your footsteps in serving the different communities with dedication and a real heart. We will surely try our best.
Do rest in peace, our beloved PDG Raymond. With fond memories and loving thoughts to you and your family, now & always.
Your humble student,
Past President Brenda Lee, Rotary Club of Bayview Sunshine HK

In Memory of My Most Respected Friend Dr. Raymond CW Wong
ReplyDeleteDear Vivien,
With the greatest sorrow I read the sad news that I have lost my most respected friend Dr. Raymond Wong. May I offer my deepest condolences to you and your family.
I have known Raymond for many years. He and I are Australian Chinese and we shared this same bi-national culture. He was also the Governor who chartered the Rotary Club of Tolo Harbour and we shared the same mission as being rotarians. Raymond contributed a lot to the Rotary Club. Not only devoted his time and energy in serving the Club but also lighted up people’s life by his selfless love. He conducted a lot of charity events in helping the community. I always learnt from him and he is my friend and my teacher. He is a model for all t he Rotarians.
It is a great pain for me to lose a great friend. It is also a pity for the Rotary Club to lost such an enthusiastic and capable leader. Yet, we will never forget him. Although Raymond left us his spirit lives in our heart. The Rotarians will carry on the mission to help the community. May Raymond now live in peace. In this moment of sadness, may we share your grief.

ReplyDeleteDear Vivien,
May I send my deepest condolence to you and your family members!
My most respected PDG Raymond was a very matured man who took care of the people around him so much. He was so committed to his job and much dedicated to the work of Rotary.
At the "New Member Orientation Seminar" which was held on 15 November,2008.I had introduced PDG Raymond as a Volunteer in the Rotary to all participants, because being a Volunteer in the Rotary internationally is not easy, not to mention the project of Polio Plus that he had committed a lot. We are so proud of the him in the District!
He gave me lots of encouragements, striving me to be the best in doing everything. He led me how to think talently and saw things in different angles. He taught me how to write a good article by reading Rotary Magazines. In the year 2006-2007, he requested to be my advisor if I intended to charter a new Rotary club, so that I could run more smoothly and lessened any difficulties.
I missed a great teacher and hope to share the sorrow with you and your family. May he rests in peace!
God Bless him and your family always,
Yours in Rotary,

Dear Vivian,
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed sad and sudden news when I learnt about Raymond's passing away --- within a month of my meeting you two at PDG Peter's dinner.
Raymond will be long remembered.
To me it is more than the dedication to Rotary.
It is His vibrant and open character. His cheerfulness and positive approach to life that impressed me.
I salute him both as a rotarian and a colleague in the medical field where he had earned a great deal of respect.
May Raymond rest in peace.
Last but not least, take care of yourself. For only then will Raymond be truely happy.

Dear Vivian & Fellow Rotarians,
ReplyDeleteNo words can fully describe my feelings when I received this news.
I was in shock !
PDG Raymond was a brilliant and wonderful man with such a gift of Interpreting and teaching us on Rotary, which no one I have ever Met has come close to doing.
He was magnetic and magnificent in the way he cared for us all And we have truly lost a great leader.
I will miss his wit, his joy for life and Rotary.
I have no explanation or magic elixir to offer you- I also lost my father 2 years ago And I miss him every single day – so in some ways I understand your pain.
All I can say is that God works in mysterious ways
We know that words are poor comforters at this time but please accept our sincere condolences and may God give you and your family the strength and the courage to bear this irreparable loss.

Dr. Raymond Wong was an exceptional Man: a Good Man.
ReplyDeleteParticularly gifted, he considered Service Above Self a natural part of his life. Certainly he showed this ernor, and in Rotary. He sicceeded me as Governor of D-345, and I had no doubt that the district would be in very ood hands.
Having sad that, I must add that he was also an exceptional and loyal Friend. It could be no otherwise, as this was part of his personality.
To his very much loved wife Vivien, and bereaved Family, no words can express our heartfelt condolences. But at least do know that Raymond will be also missed not only by his freinds, but by all those his life has touched.
